Painful changes in the writing industry

Standard

I am beyond sad to say that three of my favorite five magazines have folded in the last year or so. THREE! That is just a hint of what I hear going on around me in the publishing world. I bid farefwell to Today’s Christian Woman and Marriage Partnership, two subscriptions I looked forward to for several years. It makes me wonder “Where will I fit into the writing world now, with so many places closing their doors?”

It is getting harder for publications to stay afloat, but I have hope that times will change. Those seemingly small articles, concise groups of words, can change lives. I want to be part of that. I believe in it…and I am not alone.  Maybe online versions are the wave of the future, but that doesn’t make them better. You can’t cuddle into bed at night with a computer that way you can with a magazine. Turning the page of a book during an exciting scene can’t compare with clicking a button. I am a paper junkie, it is true. How about you?
