Day One- Rain. Lots of it. We drove through Indiana, Illinois and plenty of Missouri. Beautiful drive, but we noticed the California drivers have nothing on these in Missouri! This was a state we’d love to come spend some time, as it looks like there is plenty to do and see. It was very easy to start imagining history as we traveled the rolling hills. When I passed Independence, all I could think of was Pa Ingalls.
Day Two- Covered all of Kansas, straight across. That was looonnngggg. No traffic though, a definite plus. In fact, not much of anything to distract us~
There was this one thing. Imagine driving along and your windshield is splatted with brownish “rain”. Repeatedly. Then look to the right and see a cattle transport truck. Yes, the poop was literally flying from the cows right onto our car. It was so disgusting and hysterical at the same time. Then, there was the smell. When we stopped for gas, our car hood is sprinkled generously with fresh manure. I started laughing every few minutes for a good half hour over this one. So, in Western Kansas we found a car wash and Art had the pleasure of scrubbing us clean. On the upside, at this time of year there were no bugs splattering our windshield. Ahhh, a silver lining.
Our hotel suite is very comfy-more like a small apartment. We are excited to be here…
