So this is what baby steps feel like

Standard

The last several weeks have been busy indeed. Life was already full and satisfying, mostly. The lack of consistent writing practice was the only nagging pressure. Thankfully the pressure was greater than my slacker ways and God spoke clearly to me about how to move forward. When you are a big dreamer, the discipline of sitting down to write is difficult. I imagine any work at home job can be challenging, add to it homeschooling a couple of very fun kids and the distractions start to mount. The first step was accepting my need to elimniate anything that took me from “writer brain”, a wonderful place to be. My glass paneled doors let in light to my office, but also allowed too much visual competition. I took a stand in an effort to be proactive. Here is the result…

Next, I chose to rearrange our schedule to include regular office hours. My girls are so supportive in this area, knowing not to interrupt me or bring the phone. In fact, when I stray from writing they are self-assigned writing police encouraging me to get in there and do my thing.  While I am still very much in the writing practice/ studying mode- i am faithfully recording each step in my new desk calendar. No matter what the week held, I can rejoice that is “____” more hours than last time. It feels good.  What areas have you struggled to follow your goals?

  1. Hey, Christa! Congratulations on a great start! Looks like you’re doing okay there, and I’m glad (but not surprised) that the girls are so supportive of your plan. It’s a good learning experience for them too; very few things occur during the day that require your immediate attention and they’re discovering how to use patience, and perhaps do a little problem solving on their own, valuable assets.
Love your doors! That’s scrapbook paper, right? How creative! Why am I not surprised?
