Listen To Your Elders

Standard

I was invited a few weeks ago to one of the Sunday school classes at our church. I think it would be fair to say I am one of a sprinkling that are not retired. Anyone who knows me also knows that I am NOT a morning person. I prefer second service, and breathe a sigh of relief that I can still stay up till 2 am on Saturdays. That will be changing now. Two weeks into it and I am waking up early, without an alarm, just to be at this class first.

It is delightful! There seems to be a shift away from the generational passing of knowledge in our society. These adults may be older, and let’s be thankful for that! What powerhouses of wisdom ready to share. In our rush rush rush paces, we all but forget to slow down, sit at the feet of our elders and listen. Anyone a generation or more ahead of you has countless experiences that are important to absorb. They are not dusty stories, irrelevant to our life today. Listen, learn and be blessed.

  1. Amen to that, Christa…I have always felt more comfortable around older people … they have exciting and amazing stories to tell of “the way it was” …they lived through world wars, depression, no air conditioning, having to get up to turn the channel…(all kinds of horrors!) LOL…. pretty soon, though, as I approach age 60…those older than me will be fewer and fewer … already, I find myself being the one to tell my grandkids about “the way it was”…now I find my stories are amazing, as well 😉
